So, you have a new resident in the house. If you’re like most human parents with a newborn, you’re probably exhausted, and while you know you should document these precious moments, the idea of putting a comb through your hair and leaving the house in anything other than yoga pants makes you desperate for that nap you so deserve. Before you know it, your newborn is a pre-teen and you’ve missed the window to get those images for the baby book. Take it from me - last child of four - whose baby book is largely empty, you need photos! How can I prove that I was the cutest of the litter when there is very little photographic evidence.

I know I’m beating a dead horse here (which, is a pretty gruesome idiom), but it bears repeating. I have one friend…out of a lot…who is the type of human who can give birth one day and raft the Grand Canyon the next. She is, very likely, not human. Most women that I know want to nest, settle in and be close to their memory foam upon bringing home a new nugget. That is the normal state of affairs. Why not allow yourself to do just that while still getting the professional quality images you desire?
Less stress for EVERYONE
Let’s face it, staying home in those first few weeks or months is just easier. Especially if you have a toddler to boot. Staying home for these photos will take a load off you and your partner, and ease usually equals more authentic images. Win win.
You’ll have images that are unique to your family
I’ve said this before in other blog posts, but I love seeing photos from when I was a kid in the house I grew up in. In fact, out of all the houses I’ve lived in, my first one is the only one that I regularly dream about. Those images conjure up so many memories for me. Your home is a reflection of your life right now…it may seem like a mess but I guarantee it will look like a beautiful mess when you re-visit these images in the future.
