EEK! So, you’re having a baby and thinking ahead about those ooey, gooey newborn photos you want. Good!! This is an exciting time and the photos are going to be insanely cute. You may be wondering when you should schedule your photos, well…I’m here to help.

When should I schedule my newborn photoshoot?

Mama’s-to-be generally reach out to me mid-way through their pregnancy. Oftentimes they want to book a combo maternity and newborn session…which I highly recommend! I will put their due date in my calendar, but babies being babies…you just never know when they are going to make their grand entrance, so I have mama email once the little one has arrived, and we nail down a specific date from there.

The take-away: Reach out to your photographer letting them know you want newborn photos taken and tentatively get on their books.

How old does my baby need to be for newborn photos?

This will vary from photographer to photographer, given their style. I am a lifestyle photographer, meaning, I don’t need your baby to be in the super sleepy first few weeks of life. I photograph your baby just as they are…no Anne Geddes posing for me. This just means my time frame is a little more flexible. I’ve photographed new babes a few days old all the way to three months old.

The take-away: Just keep in mind babies change A LOT in the first few months of life. If you want to capture that magical newborn phase, get those photos booked within that narrow time frame.
