So, you’ve taken the big step to invest in a personal branding photoshoot…to invest in yourself!

GRRRRRRLLLL, YES! You deserve this!

You’ve found the perfect photographer, you’ve set a date and now you need to figure out what to wear. Fun? Yes. Stressful? Maybe. But worry no more, I’m here to help…I’ve compiled a list of what I think are the most important things to consider when putting together your outfits list…yes, outfits plural.

Let’s get into it…

Be Yourself!

  1. FIRST OF ALL, BE YOURSELF

YOU are the star of this show. Not some revamped, faux version of yourself. Believe me, your followers want to see the genYOUine article. This isn’t the time to try out an entirely new style. The point of a personal branding shoot is for your followers (clients, customers, fans, students, what have you) to get to know you. Stick to styles that you would wear on any given day. Gussy ‘em up, sure - but don’t dress like the cowgirl you’ve always dreamed of being when you’ve never ridden a horse.

  2. ACCESORIZE AND CHOOSE SOME LAYERS

You won’t have all day for a bunch of wardrobe changes (you aren’t Cher) and you want to get the most bang for your buck. The more time in front of the camera, the better. So, think accessories, think layers. You can change the look and feel of an outfit by throwing on a statement necklace or a pair of Opera gloves. Just kidding on the gloves (unless that’s your thing, then by all means). Quick wardrobe edits will give you more looks in your final gallery (the final product delivered to you from your photographer).

  3. CHOOSE A FEW DIFFERENT MOODS

Have a few different outfits to choose from. The power babe that is kicking ass and taking names, and the casual Friday babe that is working from home in her soft and cozies. This will obviously be "you” specific, depending on the work you do, but consider different vibes that reflect who you are. This will allow you to show your followers different sides of yourself and help them connect with you as the multifaceted human being that you are. It will also give you variety when choosing how you want to use the images.

  4. INVEST IN A NEW PIECE THAT MAKES YOU SWOON OVER YOURSELF

I’m not saying you need to go out and break the bank, but treat yo’self like the babe you are! I truly believe that a branding shoot should be fun, that you should feel beautiful, empowered, confident and proud. Find something that makes you feel fantastic. Maybe you already have this piece in your closet…awesome! Wear it.

  5. NO MATTER WHAT, MAKE SURE WHAT YOU ARE COMFORTABLE + CONFIDENT AF IN WHAT YOU CHOOSE

I have a closet full of jeans that are literally painful to wear. If I have a pair on, you can bet the button is undone within 30 minutes. Why do I put myself through this you ask? GREAT F’IN Q! I don’t know. Apparently I’m a sadist. Don’t do this to yourself, especially for your shoot. Just don’t. Wear clothes that fit and that you feel fabulous in. Maybe you need to binge watch TLC’s What Not To Wear, that’s okay.

  6. KEEP IT SIMPLE

I can’t say this enough…the purpose of your branding shoot is for you to have content to share with your followers so that they can get to know you, feel connected to you. Coupling these branding images with amazing copy (the stories you tell) is such a powerful tool in marketing. It is what builds connection, trust and loyalty among your followers. (Along with a great product or service, of course). You know who you are. Don’t overthink this.

If you’re still feeling stuck after this, reach out to your photographer for advice. They’ve done this before and will have plenty of tips on what works and what doesn’t. Don’t be afraid to ask, it’s why you hired them :)

Remember…this is an investment in you. Have fun and show up as the boss babe that you are! The camera is going to LOVE YOU.

Cozy is key.
